If you have $600K to spend on a special edition Porsche, but don’t want anyone to know, then this sleeper 911R is for you.
It doesn’t have the signature red/green stripes, and it has standard Carrera S seats instead of the cool houndstooth bucket seats you normally get in the R. It’s as boring as a 911R can possibly get.
When I first saw it at Miller last week, I honestly thought it was a Carrera S with a GT3 front bumper.

I can understand not getting the stripes, but the houndstooth seats are so frigging cool.

Agreed! I didn’t like the red/green stripes, but the houndstooth are necessary. I’d actually like it with those seats and black stripes.

An understated 911 in like nardo gray or battleship gray would be perfect with the houndstooth interior.
Edit: Posting a picture of the seats because why not

It’s really clean and simple, I like it, but I would like bucket seats.
That being said, I would never buy a 991R, terrible value for what you get.

How is it not? You’re basically paying and extra 300/400(?) grand for a manual...
Besides, any 911 would be enough car on a track for me (forget DDing). I’d be happy with a base model manual with carbon brakes, or a GTS manual if I was willing to spend more. And besides, paying that much for a car would just make me so much more worried about driving it (track or DD), especially when I basically could’ve had a very similar car for a fraction of the cost.

Considering the 991.2 GT3 will be available with the same 6-speed manual, it’s a lot of money to spend on houndstooth seats. Will probably still hold its inflated value, though.

fair, I was taking it at face-value. I think at sticker price this is the ultimate Porsche, but then again it is now impossible to get sticker on one of these.

Well I’d say this is the ultimate 911, yeah, and I get the whole exclusivity thing, but my love for manuals is definitely not worth that much.
Also, I saw a while ago someone was trying to sell their 911R for like 1 million lol, so for a 911R, I guess this value isn’t that bad.
(I also just realized the MSRP for one of these on the website is just over 200k, which would be worth it, but, not like many people got the chance any way...)

While I like sleepers, and special cars that don’t shout about how special they are, this seems a bit excessive.

$600k is absurd, of course. But the MSRP of $185k was not.

I didn’t see a price on that listing, but you need to remember that the list price for a 911 R was $185,000. Value is relative based on what the original owner paid, vs someone who is willing to spend 3x or 4x that much for it.
They only made 911, of which I think zero actually went on sale.
If you look at the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 (which is probably the closest relative to the 991 R), they made 600 at about the same price as the 911R. And they go for ~$500,000 now.
If you were an original owner of either car, I’d say they were pretty good value.
If you were the next guy to buy it.....I’d agree, not good value for the dollar.
Either way, I hope someone drives the damn thing.

A 911 R without houndstooth? Absolutely not.

Anybody who specs the clear 991.1 taillights has no sense of good aesthetics. That is more than opinion- that is fact.
